Welcome to the community of Waynesville! Riders, as you prepare for your adventure, learn more about Historic Route 66 as well as enhanced tools to explore the history of America's Mother Road in Central Missouri.  

Day 4 Home Base

Waynesville City Park features plentiful camping area for Big BAM participants as well as pavilions and picnic tables, a Splash Park, and restroom facilities. The park is located alongside Roubidoux Creek. The National Park Service trail leads south to the Laughlin Park, home to the Trail of Tears Memorial and Roubidoux Spring. 

Exiting to the west, you'll find convenience and ice at the Downtown Service Station and Dollar General.  Exiting to the east is the Downtown square, offering an array of restaurants and boutiques. Experience the Historic Downtown Walking Tour, Route 66 murals, and the 8-foot Route 66 Shield.

 

Lodging & Activities

For those looking for comfortable beds, hotels are plentiful in Pulaski County with vacation homes located in Waynesville. Visit the Cherokee Encampment – National Park Service Trail of Tears Memorial, B&B Theater, Comic Hoarders, and numerous boutiques, restaurants and nightlife.    A few great choices to "fuel up" are: Hopper's Pub, Piney River Tap Room, Paradise Deli, Sweet Sam's on 66, Westside Cafe, Mardiyama, Mu Bahn Thai,  El Centenario and various convenience stores, delivery,  and food truck options.

In the Saint Robert area, check out Score — featuring golf simulators and axe throwing — BK Games, Bow and Barrel Sportsmen Center, and Uranus Missouri, home of the Uranus Fudge Factory & General Store, the Uranus Sideshow Museum, and Putt Pirates miniature golf. A daytime water stop is planned at the City of Saint Robert Route 66 Neon Park, but a visit from dusk to midnight when the neon lights are aglow is a must! The Route

As you enter Pulaski County, grab a quick breakfast to go from Click's Route 66 General Store. Make a quick stop at Fanigans Salon LLC to admire one of five Ray Harvey murals. Buckhorn Station offers a quick rest area,  breakfast, and Champions Chicken later in the morning or Momma's Cafe. Just past the roundabout, look to your right to view the huge Thrift on Route 66 mural. A quick side stop at the stoplight takes you to Price Cutter Plus and just beyond is the Tiger Car Wash Route 66 Mural. Continue back to Route 66 and you are just 2 miles from your stop for the day at Waynesville Park.

When departing in the morning, heading east, you'll conquer Waynesville Hill. Look to your left to view the famous Frog Rock. As you enter Saint Robert, you'll find numerous breakfast stops along the way. A water stop is available at the City of Saint Robert Route 66 Neon Park. Continue east to Uranus Missouri with a stop for their famous fudge and snacks. Your last available breakfast or conveniences is located at the Route 66/Highway 28 junction of Country Café and Rustic Treasures & Gifts. You'll then cycle the four-lane section and turn into Devils Elbow, known for the 1923 steel-truss bridge and scenic views of the bluffs and Big Piney River.

What Is Big BAM?

Big BAM is a cycling trek across MIssouri from Sept. 4-10, departing from Joplin and heading east to Eureka. Big BAM Riders will begin arriving to Waynesville City Park early in the morning Sept. 7. They will depart the park early Sept. 8 and head east, traveling up Waynesville Hill with  a water stop at the City of Saint Robert Route 66 Neon Park, on to Uranus Missouri, then to Devils Elbow.
