Day 4 Home Base
The Waynesville City Park features plentiful camping area for BigBam participants, pavilions and picnic tables, Splash Park, restroom facilities. The park is located alongside the Roubidoux Creek. The National Park Service trail leads south to the Laughlin Park home to the Trail of Tears Memorial and Roubidoux Spring.
Exiting to the west you fill find convenience and ice at the Downtown Service Station and Dollar General. Exiting to the east is the downtown square offering an array of restaurants and boutiques. While downtown experience the historic downtown walking tour, Route 66 murals, and the Route 66 8-foot Shield.
Lodging and Activities
For those looking for comfortable beds, hotels are plentiful in Pulaski County with vacation homes located in Waynesville. Take time to visit the Cherokee Encampment – National Park Service Trail of Tears Memorial, B & B Theater, Comic Hoarders and numerous boutiques and restaurants. In the St. Robert area check out Scores offering interactive gaming, BK games, Bow & Barrel indoor shooting range, Uranus Missouri’s; Side Show Museum and Putt Pirates miniature golf. A day time water stop is planned at the City of St. Robert Route 66 Neon Park, but a visit when the neon lights from dusk to midnight is a must! The Route
As you enter Pulaski County Click’s on 66 serves quick breakfasts to go. Be sure to make a quick stop at Fanigans to admire one of five Ray Harvey murals. Buckhorn Station offers a quick rest area, breakfast, and Champions Chicken later in the morning. Just past the roundabout, look to your right to view the huge Thrift on Route 66 mural. A quick side stop at the stoplight takes you to Price Cutter and just beyond is the Tiger Car Wash Route 66 Mural. Continue back to Route 66 and you are just 2 miles from your stop for the day at the Waynesville Park.
When departing in the morning, heading east, you will conquer the Waynesville Hill. Look to your left to view the famous Frog Rock, Croaker. As you enter St. Robert you will find numerous breakfast stops along the way. A water stop is available at the City of St. Robert Neon Park. Continue east to Uranus MO, with a stop for their famous fudge and snacks. Your last available breakfast or conveniences is located at the Route 66/Hwy 28 junction of Country Café and Rustic Treasures. You will then cycle the 4-lane section, take a turn into Devils Elbow, known for the 1923 bridge and scenic views of the bluffs and Big Piney River.
As you depart, be sure to watch for Frog Rock on your left. Your next water stop will be at the City of St. Robert Neon Park.
What is BigBam? BigBam is a cycling across MIssouri, departing from Joplin to Eureka, September 4-10th. BigBam Riders will begin arriving to the Waynesville City Park early morning on September 7th. Early September 8th they will depart the park to the east traveling up the Waynesville Hill, with a water stop at the City of St. Robert Neon Park, on to Uranus MO, and Devils Elbow.
