Travel through Our History

Here in Pulaski County, we take our history seriously. But the legends and accomplishments of our ancestors aren’t just relegated to dusty old library books or tales told across generations — they’re immortalized in the many museums displaying the hard work and sacrifice of those who came before. At Fort Leonard Wood, explore the expansive John B. Mahaffey Museum Complex, the only place in the country to feature three U.S. Army museums in one facility. Open to the public, the U.S. Army Military Police Corps Regimental Museum, the U.S. Army Engineer Museum, and the U.S. Army Chemical Corps Museum each highlight the fascinating history of these Army branches with a selection of uniforms, weapons, equipment, and even vehicles.

In Waynesville, explore the captivating story of Pulaski County’s oldest standing structure, the Old Stagecoach Stop, and its many roles throughout its life, beginning as a stop on the Burden & Woodson stage route and even serving as a Union hospital during the Civil War. The 1903 Route 66 Courthouse Museum on Waynesville’s city square is housed in one of just two period courthouses on Historic Route 66 and spotlights the stories that define the history of Pulaski County, from the Trail of Tears and the Frisco Railroad to the Mother Road and the Fort Leonard Wood boom. Finally, the Frisco Depot Museum in Crocker shines a light on the railroad industry and its impact on Pulaski County’s development with a collection of railroad memorabilia.
