Waynesville Dedicates Mural Recently Completed On New Dollar General

The much anticipated mural by artist Ray Harvey began earlier in October, and was completed just before Veteran’s Day

Waynesville, MO: The City of Waynesville and numerous community partners dedicated the much anticipated mural by artist Ray Harvey (www.rayharveyart.com) today at 1:30pm at the new Waynesville Dollar General at 1413 US Rt66, Waynesville, MO 65583. The mural was painted on the new Dollar General facing Historic Route 66 and was part of a pre-development agreement between the owner and the City of Waynesville for the beautification and promotion of the City, its history, and enhancing the attractiveness of the newest retailer to join the Waynesville business community.

The artist, Ray Harvey, is well known throughout Missouri and the Midwest as an excellent large-form artist with a unique ability to capture distinct motifs of the communities where his art is displayed. Mr. Harvey was recommended to the City and Dollar General’s prime contractor by members of the local community who were familiar with his work. Mr. Harvey worked closely with the City and the owner to produce an image that captured unique emblems that symbolize Waynesville, Fort Leonard Wood, Pulaski County, Route 66, and others. The image was created using premium materials (Sherwin Williams Sure-Clear), and Mr. Harvey has indicated that the mural should have a lifespan of 15 years, weather permitting. Mr. Harvey and his wife were present for the dedication of the mural, and to provide an opportunity for members of the region to meet with him and ask questions about the new artwork.

The City of Waynesville partnered with the Waynesville/St. Robert Chamber of Commerce, the Waynesville Downtown Business Association (WDBA), the larger business community, and Dollar General and City staff to dedicate the mural. It will be permanently visible to all East or West vehicle traffic on Route 66 passing through Waynesville, as well as enjoyment by pedestrians for years to come.

Any and all info regarding the new mural, the artist, the background for its creation, or answers to questions can be found at www.waynesvillemo.org or www.rayharveyart.com, or by calling 573-774-6171. The artwork itself is a copyright of Ray Harvey. Reproduction or use without the permission of artist Ray Harvey is not permitted, and all requests for use or reproduction can be made at www.rayharveyart.com.

The city of Waynesville, MO is a city of about 5200 residents established in 1839 in the Missouri Ozarks located directly on the old Route 66 and Interstate 44 and North of Fort Leonard Wood.
